Grok bot vs claude cowork, for a small business, is a choice between a standing AI assistant that keeps working inside your websites and inboxes, and an AI coworker that turns your files into finished spreadsheets, decks and documents.
Both can take real work off a busy owner's desk.
They just suit different kinds of work.
This page looks at plan names, real business use cases, the risks and a verdict by job type, using only what xAI and Anthropic publish.
Neither company compares the two products, so the comparison is my own reading of both sets of official docs, checked on 4 November 2026.

The short answer for business owners
Choose Grok Bot when the job happens on websites and in apps, starts from an incoming message, and needs to run while nobody is at a desk.
Choose Claude Cowork when the job ends in a file someone else will open, such as a report, a price list or a slide deck.
Many firms will want both, with Grok Bot catching the work as it arrives and Cowork packaging it up.
What you actually get with each one
Grok Bot gives you Bots with names, jobs and memory that work on a persistent cloud computer with a browser, files and a terminal, according to the official overview.
All your Bots share that one computer, so a login one Bot makes is there for the next Bot too.
You can reach them from the desktop app, the phone apps, X Chat, and Slack through shared Bots.
Claude Cowork is Claude's mode for multi-step work: you describe the result, step away and come back to finished files, per Anthropic's Cowork guide.
It runs each task in its own isolated cloud environment, and it reaches your computer's folders through Claude Desktop.
Anthropic also ships Claude for Small Business, a toggle inside Cowork that connects QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, Docusign, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365.
Which plans include them
Grok Bot is included on Premium, Super and Ultra under The X Subscription, and the Plus plan doesn't include it, per xAI's plan page.
xAI's overview also lists legacy paid Cursor plans, Cursor Teams, and linked SuperGrok or X Premium+ subscriptions.
Cursor's mirror of the docs at cursor.com/docs/grok-bot mentions only Cursor plans and SuperGrok links, so the two vendors' pages don't fully match.
Check what your own account screen shows before you sign staff up.
Claude Cowork is on every paid Claude plan: Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise.
On Team, the web and mobile version is still in beta, and on Enterprise an owner has to enable it.

Where your business data goes
Grok Bot runs its computers in Cursor's cloud and signs in with your Cursor account, per the Grok Bot FAQ.
Every Bot on your account shares the same files, browser sessions and logins, and xAI says not to treat separate Bots as a security boundary.
Your own laptop stays separate unless you allow a Bot to run commands on it.
Cowork sessions run on Anthropic's servers in an environment made for that one session, which can't reach your office network and is removed afterwards, per Use Claude Cowork safely.
Any local file Claude opens through the desktop app is processed on Anthropic's servers rather than staying on your machine.
So for both tools, the practical rule is the same: give access only to what the job needs.

Recurring jobs: event triggers vs a calendar
Grok Bot routines run on a schedule or when something happens: a Slack message, an email to the Bot's own address, a webhook call, or a GitHub, Linear, Sentry or PagerDuty event, per the routines page.
For a service business, the email and webhook triggers are the useful ones, because a website form or a booking tool can start the work.
Routines keep running in the cloud when your laptop is shut.
Cowork's scheduled tasks run on a cadence you pick and use your connectors, skills and plugins, with no device online.
They suit briefings, weekly reports and folder clean-ups more than instant replies to customers.
Anthropic also tells you not to schedule tasks that send messages or make purchases on your behalf.
Approvals: keeping money and messages under your control
Grok Bot checks each action with Auto Review, and an action that matches one of your Ask first rules always shows an approval card, per the approvals docs.
Email a routine sends from the Bot's own address waits as a draft until you press Send.
A card saved in the Vault fills in at checkout without a separate approval, so leave it unsaved if you want to sign off on every payment.
On the shopping side, the v0.78.1 release notes describe Buy now as starting an order you approve, per the changelog.
Cowork offers three modes, and Anthropic says to switch to Manually approve when a task touches sensitive accounts or would be hard to undo.
Claude always asks before permanently deleting files, in any mode.
Claude for Small Business adds its own promise: you approve before anything sends, posts or pays.
What each one remembers about your business
Each Bot saves stable preferences, key facts and summaries of past work, and you can ask it what it remembers or tell it to forget something, per the Bot memory docs.
xAI says credentials belong in Vault, not in memory.
Cowork shares memory with your Claude chats, and Cowork projects each keep their own files, instructions and memory.
A project for each client, or each branch of your business, keeps that context apart.
Running it from your phone
The Grok Bot phone app needs iOS 18 or later or Android 9 or later, and lets you message Bots, approve actions and pause routines.
You can also hand your main Bot a task by tagging @bot on X, where that's available in your region.
Cowork works on web, desktop and the Claude mobile apps, and your phone gets a notification when a task finishes or needs you.
Anything touching files on your office computer still needs Claude Desktop open on that machine.
Files your accountant or client can open
This is where Cowork pulls ahead for most offices.
Anthropic lists Excel spreadsheets with working formulas, PowerPoint presentations and formatted documents as standard outputs.
It can turn receipts in a folder into an expense report, or rough notes into a slide deck.
Grok Bot can produce a spreadsheet with formulas or a deck with speaker notes too, and its files guide shows it saving results straight to Google Drive, OneDrive or SharePoint.
If the file is the product, start with Cowork.
If delivering the file is the chore, Grok Bot handles that part well.
Rolling it out to staff
On a Cursor team, you can share one Bot with everyone or with chosen people, and each person's chat with it stays private, per the shared Bots page.
Managers can change its instructions, skills, memory and apps, and the Bot can sit in Slack.
Claude Team and Enterprise owners can switch Cowork on or off, control cloud sessions and the built-in browser, and push plugins to staff as required or optional, per the team and enterprise guide.
Cowork projects can be shared with view or edit access, but sessions themselves can't be shared yet.
If you're also considering a coding agent for a developer on staff, my comparison of Grok Bot vs Codex for business covers that choice.
Risks to plan for
- Shared logins: every Bot uses the same computer, so sign out of services a Bot no longer needs.
- Busy triggers: a Slack routine on a busy channel runs often and uses up your plan's weekly usage.
- Unwatched schedules: Anthropic advises starting scheduled tasks with low-risk summaries and checking each run.
- Screen control: Cowork computer use works directly on your screen without the permission checks other tools get.
- Untrusted text: both vendors warn that instructions hidden in emails or web pages are not your request.
