Grok Bot Windows is worth it for a small business when your team already works on Windows PCs and you want an agent that keeps working after you close the laptop.

The desktop app runs on Windows x64 and Arm64, according to xAI's Get Started guide, so most office PCs and the newer Arm laptops are covered.

This page looks at it as an owner would: what you get, which plan includes it, where it saves time and where it can go wrong.

What a Windows-based business actually gets

You get a desktop app for chatting with Bots, reviewing their work and approving their actions.

The Bots don't run on your PC.

The deployment docs say each member gets a hosted computer that runs Linux in the cloud, and the Bots do their work there.

For an owner, that's the main selling point: a ten-year-old office desktop and a brand-new Arm laptop get the same Bot.

Your PC just needs to run the app.

Which plans include Grok Bot

On The X Subscription, Premium, Super and Ultra include Grok Bot, and Plus doesn't, per Grok Bot on The X Subscription.

Super and Ultra give larger shared weekly allowances.

The Get Started guide adds that legacy Cursor paid individual plans and Cursor Teams include it, and that a SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy or X Premium+ subscription can be linked.

Seats on a self-serve Grok Business plan work too.

Check your plan name before anyone downloads anything, because the Windows app is no use on Plus.

Also check your privacy setting: the Get Started guide says accounts on Privacy Mode (Legacy) get prompted to switch to Privacy Mode first, because Grok Bot needs cloud data storage.

Your Windows PC is the remote, not the worker

A Bot can keep a job going while your PC is asleep, because the job lives on the cloud computer.

That also limits risk.

A Bot can't touch the files on your Windows machine unless you allow it under Execution on this computer in Settings → Computer → Your computer.

The default is Ask every time, and xAI's approvals and privacy docs recommend Never allow whenever no Bot actually needs the files on your PC.

For most owners, Never allow is the right starting point.

Use case: a local shop running on one Windows laptop

Picture a florist with one Windows laptop behind the counter.

The owner gives a Bot one job: watch supplier emails and draft a weekly order summary.

The Bot does the reading on its cloud computer, and the owner approves anything it wants to send.

Since v0.71.2 (14 Oct 2026), the changelog says Bot replies and questions now show up as notifications on the Windows PC you're working at, rather than buzzing your phone.

So the owner sees the summary land on the laptop during the shift, not as another phone alert.

Use case: a service firm with a mixed PC fleet

An accounting or legal firm often has a mix of older x64 desktops and newer Arm64 laptops.

xAI publishes a Setup .exe for each, so nobody gets left out.

The firm's IT person can push it with Intune or Configuration Manager and install silently with /S, per the deployment docs.

The installer installs per user, so it goes into each person's profile rather than the whole machine.

Staff sign in with the same company SSO they already use, since Grok Bot has no separate login.

If the firm runs a web proxy, IT also has to allow the Grok Bot domains, including *.*.cursorvm.com, and exempt them from TLS inspection, per the proxies page.

Do that before rollout day, or the app installs fine and then can't reach the Bot's computer.

The firm keeps control of client files, because local execution stays off unless a partner turns it on.

Use case: an agency juggling client logins on Windows

Agencies live in logins: ad accounts, CMS dashboards, analytics.

Builds from 0.75.2 onward pick up a 1Password app already installed on a Windows PC and offer to link it, per the changelog.

The computer and apps docs explain the flow: you approve each login in 1Password, 1Password fills it in the Bot's browser, and the Bot never sees the values.

That beats pasting client passwords into a chat window, which the troubleshooting guide tells you not to do.

It needs 1Password 8.12.42 or later on a personal or Family account, and the integration is still rolling out.

Where the time comes back

The time savings come from three places, and none of them need you to sit and watch.

  • Background work. Jobs keep running in the cloud while you serve customers.
  • Voice input. Press or hold Ctrl+D to dictate a task instead of typing it, a shortcut the changelog added in v0.20.0.
  • Fewer copy-paste fixes. Builds from 0.70.2 onward keep list text inline when pasted on Windows and keep non-English characters and curly quotes in copied chat text.

The docs don't publish a time-saved figure, so measure your own: time one weekly task before and after.

The risks to manage before the first task

  • Local access. Set Execution on this computer to Never allow until you have a reason to change it.
  • The first prompt. When a Bot first asks to run a command on your PC, Always allow on that card applies to every Bot, so pick Deny once or Never unless you mean it.
  • Backups. PC-only files fall outside the Bot computer's recovery, per the troubleshooting guide.
  • Sign-in methods. Windows Hello sign-ins and laptop passkeys stay behind on your PC; the Bot's computer can't use them, so plan another approved sign-in method.
  • Forced updates. The troubleshooting guide says the app forces an update when your build passes 14 days old and a newer release exists.

None of these is a deal-breaker; they're settings you decide once.

A setup order for an owner who isn't technical

  1. Confirm your plan is Premium, Super or Ultra.
  2. Open the Download Grok Bot row on the Cursor dashboard, or use x.ai/bot.
  3. Run the Setup .exe that matches your PC: x64 for most desktops, Arm64 for Arm laptops.
  4. Sign in and let the app create your first Bot.
  5. Set Execution on this computer to Never allow.
  6. Give the Bot one clear job and one document to start with.

That's a short sitting for most owners, and nothing in it needs the command line.

Once it works, the account menu's Support → About shows the installed version, which is handy when you ask for help.

Will an old office PC cope?

The docs list Windows on x64 and Arm64 and don't publish a minimum RAM or Windows version for the desktop app.

Because Bots work in the cloud, the PC mostly draws the chat window.

If an older machine's window flickers or goes blank, the settings page says to turn off Use hardware acceleration and restart.

That setting has been on by default for Windows since v0.67.0 (2 Oct 2026).

Keeping a team on the same version

Updates arrive automatically on Windows, and no admin setting turns that off.

What a business owner can do is pin the tested build: download that release's installer, keep it in your own store and deploy from your copy.

The deployment docs say older builds stop working once they lose support, so plan a regular update rhythm rather than freezing a version forever.

Changelog v0.59.0 means a downloaded update on Windows also installs when someone quits the app, which keeps stragglers current.

Your phone fills the gaps

When you step away from the PC, the phone app takes over approvals.

The settings docs say that if a Bot needs your input, your phone gets notified about three minutes later unless you open that Bot first.

Finished replies skip your phone while you're using the Windows app.

That split works well for owners who are at the desk in the morning and on the shop floor in the afternoon.

If one Bot is noisy, turn off its Notifications from its profile on the phone, or on desktop simply ask the Bot to switch them off.

When Grok Bot on Windows isn't worth it

  • You're on the Plus plan and don't plan to upgrade.
  • Your work depends on Windows-only desktop software the Bot would have to drive directly on your PC.
  • Your company can't move off Privacy Mode (Legacy), which blocks Grok Bot entirely.
  • You want to choose the AI model; the FAQ says there's no model picker.

If two of those fit, wait.

Mac in the office too?

Plenty of small firms run both.

The Mac version has its own installer, and the business case reads a little differently, so we covered it separately in Grok Bot Mac for business.

Bots and chats follow the account, so staff can switch between a Windows PC and a Mac without losing work.

The quick decision checklist

  • Is your plan Premium, Super or Ultra?
  • Do you have one repeatable weekly job to hand over?
  • Will you keep local execution on Never allow?
  • Is someone responsible for backups of PC-only files?
  • Can staff sign in with SSO or 1Password instead of pasting passwords?

Five yeses means it's time to install.

The Bots work on a hosted cloud computer, so the PC mainly runs the chat app. If the window flickers, turn off Use hardware acceleration and restart.

Which plan do I need for Grok Bot on Windows?

Premium, Super or Ultra on The X Subscription. The Plus plan does not include Grok Bot.

Can staff install it without IT?

Yes, unless your device policies block it. They can use the dashboard link an admin shares or cursor.com/download/bot.

Can a Bot open files on our Windows PCs?

Only if Execution on this computer allows it. The default asks every time, and xAI recommends Never allow unless a Bot has a specific reason.

Are files on our PCs backed up by Grok Bot?

No. Files that exist only on your Windows machine are not covered, so keep your own backups.
