Grok Bot email is worth turning on for a small business if the owner is drowning in receipts, supplier notices and sign-up codes, and it can be set up in an afternoon.
xAI's email address docs give your Bots one inbox at mail.grokbot.com that they can receive, read, search and send from.
That turns an assistant you chat with into one that also handles the mail you never want to open.
This page looks at it the way an owner should: what it does, which plans carry it, where it saves time and where it can bite.

The short answer for owners
Yes, if you run lots of low-value admin mail through your own inbox today.
No, if you want a shared help desk for your staff or a tool that mails customers in bulk.
The Bot address is built for the first job, and the docs are clear that it is not built for the second.
Every send stays under your control, which is exactly what a business owner should want from an agent.
What a Bot inbox can do for a business
The docs list five things a Bot can do once it has an address.
- Sign up for services with its own address and collect the verification code or link, with your OK.
- Collect receipts, newsletters and reports, then summarize them for you.
- Draft mail for you, such as a digest or an update, and draft replies.
- Forward a message with its original formatting, images and attachments.
- Run a routine when mail arrives, optionally only from chosen senders.
For an owner, that list reads as: keep vendor clutter out of my personal inbox and hand me a summary instead.
Which plans include it
Grok Bot is included in the Premium, Super and Ultra plans, and Plus does not include it, according to the X subscription page for Grok Bot.
Pick the plan by name on that page before you build anything around the inbox.
Routines, which drive the automated side of email, depend on your plan too.
The changelog notes that since v0.77.0, when your plan does not include routines, the Bot names the plan that does.
On a team account, an admin has to switch on Agent Email first, because it starts off.
How the setup works for a busy owner
You do not need a developer for any of this.
Type "Get yourself an email address." into a chat with any of your Bots.
It asks what name you want, confirms the name is free and puts an approval card in front of you.
Nothing is reserved until you tap approve.
If you prefer menus, open Connect apps, pick Email, enter a name and press Create address.
On a phone the same screen lives under Settings → Connect apps → Email.
When it is done, the app shows the new address with a copy button, ready to paste into supplier forms.
Choose a business name that will still fit in five years
The name is the one decision you cannot undo.
It can use lowercase letters, numbers, dots, hyphens and underscores, up to 64 characters, and it has to begin and end with a letter or number.
Words like support, admin, billing, help, info and team are reserved, so a generic "info@" style name is off the table.
Your trading name is usually the right call, because a campaign or product name can go stale.
If the name you want is taken, pick another, since a taken address is never released.
Three real business use cases
Each one below uses only features the docs describe, set up the same way.
Use case: a local shop with ten suppliers
Picture a shop owner whose suppliers send invoices, delivery notices and price lists to a personal inbox.
Give each supplier its own plus alias, such as shopname+wholesale@mail.grokbot.com.
Every alias lands in the one inbox, so nothing needs a second account.
A routine watching the wholesale alias, filtered to that supplier's domain, can read each invoice and add it to a list for the owner.
The owner then asks one question at the end of the day instead of reading thirty emails.

Use case: a service firm handling bookings
A cleaning company, a clinic or a consultancy gets booking confirmations and calendar notices from its booking tool.
Point those notices at an alias like +bookings and set a routine that watches only the booking tool's sender address.
The Bot drafts a morning digest of who is booked and what changed.
Because the digest comes from a routine, it waits as a draft until you press Send, so nothing reaches a client by surprise.
That one rule is why the feature fits a firm where a wrong email costs a customer.
Use case: a small agency testing tools
Agencies sign up for a lot of trials, and each one wants an email address and a verification click.
A Bot can sign up with its own address and pick up the code or link with your OK.
Use a +trials alias so every trial mail stays grouped.
Client reports that arrive as attachments can be forwarded with their formatting intact, which needs Grok Bot 0.75.2 or later.
The agency owner keeps the personal inbox for clients and lets the Bot carry the tool noise.
Where the time comes back
The saving is in reading and sorting, not in sending.
Your Bot reads the mail, groups it and writes the first draft of any reply.
You still read every outgoing draft from a routine, because there is no setting for unattended sending.
Owners who batch that review into one slot a day get the most out of it.
There is no inbox screen and no ping when mail lands, so the habit is to ask the Bot what came in at a set time.
A useful first question is simply "What arrived in your inbox today?"
Nobody can promise you a number of hours, and you should ignore anyone who does.
Risks to weigh before you claim an address
- The name is permanent. You cannot rename or delete it, and taken names are never handed out again.
- Aliases are labels, not locks. Anyone can write to an alias, so routines need a sender filter.
- No subject filters. Routines match senders, addresses and domains only.
- No inbox view or alerts. You have to ask the Bot what arrived.
- Attachment caps. Inbound messages hold ten files at most, each under 10 MB, with a 25 MB combined ceiling, and extras get dropped.
None of these are deal-breakers, but the first one deserves ten minutes of thought.
Use the business name you expect to keep for years.
How it keeps customers and suppliers safe
A Bot treats email from other people as information, not instructions.
Every message it opens carries a tag saying whether you or another person wrote it.
Orders hidden in a stranger's email are never treated as your go-ahead.
A message flagged by the spam or virus check stays stored minus its text and files, and it cannot kick off a routine.
Card details, logins and contact info belong in the Vault, not in a Bot's memory, per the Bots docs.
Add a memory rule such as "Always ask before you send an email" so the Bot double-checks with you on every send.

Using it next to your normal business inbox
You keep your current email exactly as it is.
If Gmail or Outlook is already connected to Grok Bot, the Bot asks which account to send from whenever either one could work.
That makes a clean split possible: customers keep writing to your real address, and vendors, tools and newsletters write to the Bot.
Forwarding lets the Bot pass an important message on with its formatting, pictures and files intact.
Each forward is still a send, so it follows the same approval rules as any other email.
What it will not replace
It is not a shared staff inbox.
The Bot leaves the address out of Slack threads and out of conversations another person is having with it.
A shared Bot has no team address at all.
It is not a bulk mail tool either.
Newsletters and first-contact emails go to one recipient per message with an unsubscribe link, and each email caps at 50 recipients.
If a message bounces, or someone unsubscribes or marks it as spam, the Bot stops writing to that address and tells you.
Keep your marketing platform for campaigns and use the Bot for the back office.
A one-week trial plan for an owner
- Day 1: claim the address and approve the card.
- Day 2: move two suppliers or tools to their own aliases.
- Day 3: set one routine with an alias and a sender filter.
- Day 4: ask the Bot for a digest of everything that arrived.
- Day 5: review the drafts it wrote and correct its tone.
- Days 6 and 7: decide which mail moves over next.
For the routine side, my guide to Grok Bot routines for business covers schedules and triggers.
Questions to ask before day one
- Which three senders fill your inbox with mail you never reply to?
- Which of those send from one fixed address or one domain you can filter on?
- Who in the business will read the Bot's drafts, and when?
- Is your plan Premium, Super or Ultra, or do you need to change it first?
- On a team account, has your admin switched on Agent Email?
If you can answer all five, the setup is quick.
If the third question has no answer, wait, because unread drafts help nobody.
The owners who get value from an agent inbox are the ones who give it a narrow job and a fixed review time.
Should your business set it up?
If admin mail eats your mornings, set it up this week.
Start with one alias and one routine, not ten.
