A Grok Bot free trial is worth taking for a small business only if you walk in with one real job to test, because the credit is small, timed and gone once you spend it.
The official Grok Bot FAQ describes it as a usage credit plus a 7-day window, offered to some accounts through a Start Trial button.
The latest release notes muddy that picture, and I will show you both versions below.
This page is for owners deciding whether the trial is worth their week, not for engineers.
If you want a second opinion on where an agent saves your business the most time, book a free call with my team.
The short answer for business owners
Take the trial if your access screen offers it and you have a repeatable task ready.
Skip it, or wait, if you have no clear job yet, because the 7-day window keeps ticking either way.
The risk is low: the FAQ says this trial never turns into a paid plan, and cancelling costs nothing.
The real cost is your time, so plan the week before you press the button.
Check whether you already have access before you trial anything
Plenty of owners already pay for something that unlocks Grok Bot.
Grok Bot signs you in with a Cursor account, and the Get Started guide says a SuperGrok or X Premium+ subscription can be linked when the app asks.
On phones, the access screen shows Link Grok Account; on desktop, look for Get Access with Grok under Settings → Usage & Billing.
If one of those gives you access, you may not need the trial at all.
Spend two minutes on this check, because it could save you buying a plan you effectively already own.
What the trial gives you, translated into business terms
Think of the credit as a fuel tank, not a pass.
It drains by how much work the agents actually do, counted in agent steps and tokens.
Message count does not matter, which surprises most owners.
A single request like "go through every supplier invoice this quarter" can empty it in one go.
Whatever you burn stays burned; the FAQ says used credit is not restored.
So the trial tests whether one well-defined task pays back your time, not whether Grok Bot can run your whole operation.
Heads-up: your app may show plans instead of a trial
On 27 October, release v0.78.1 on the Grok Bot changelog said the free-trial offer has been replaced: those spots now show Get Grok Bot with a unified plan, plus a See Unified Plans option.
The FAQ page with the trial wording was still published on 3 November.
That means two official sources currently disagree.
Your own screen settles it, so sign in and look before you budget any time for the test.
If you see plans and no trial, the rest of this page still helps you judge whether a plan is worth it.
Three businesses, three trial plans
The right test depends on what your business repeats every week.
A local shop: test one admin chore
Picture a florist or a bike shop with one owner doing the paperwork at night.
The best trial task is the dull one that repeats every week.
- Turn this week's customer emails into a list of orders and questions.
- Draft polite replies to the five most common questions.
- Check a supplier website and report which items are back in stock.
Run each task once, time how long you would have spent by hand, and write that number down.
That gives you a real time-saved figure for your shop instead of a guess.
A service firm: test client follow-up
A small accounting, cleaning or legal practice lives on follow-up.
Use the trial to test one follow-up flow end to end, with you approving every outgoing message.
Give the Bot the job in its first message and tell it to remember how it should work, which the Get Started guide recommends for a focused Bot.
Keep the scope to a handful of clients so you do not drain the credit on day one.
If the drafts need little editing, you have found a weekly job worth keeping.

An agency: test one client deliverable, not ten
Agencies are tempted to throw every client at a new tool on day one.
Resist that during a trial.
Pick one deliverable you produce every week, such as a short research brief, and run it for one client.
Compare the output with what your team usually ships.
If the Bot gets you most of the way there, the paid plan question becomes easy to answer.
If you run an SEO agency and want help choosing that deliverable, book a free SEO strategy session.
What a seven-day trial cannot tell you
A trial shows you how one task feels, not how a full month of work behaves.
It will not show how your usage fits a weekly allowance, because paid plans on The X Subscription draw from a weekly shared pool.
It will not show how a team shares Bots, since that depends on your plan and seats.
And it will not show long routines that run for weeks.
So judge the trial on one question only: did this one job save time with light checking?
Who on your team should run the test
Give the trial to the person who does the task today, not to whoever is most excited about AI.
They know what a good result looks like and can spot errors fast.
Ask them to keep a short note after each run: what they asked, what came back, and what they had to fix.
That note becomes your evidence on day 7.
The phone trial that can turn into a bill
This is the one real billing risk for owners, so read it twice.
A free trial started inside the iPhone app is an App Store offer that Apple runs.
According to the mobile docs, it becomes a paid Apple subscription unless you cancel it in Apple ID → Subscriptions before it ends.
Cursor cannot cancel or refund that in-app plan for you.
Android has no in-app trial at all, per the same page.
If a staff member tests Grok Bot on a company iPhone, put the trial end date in the shared calendar.
The Grok Bot iOS guide covers the rest of the iPhone setup.
Which plan includes Grok Bot after the trial
If the test works, the next question is which plan to pick.
On The X Subscription, the Grok Bot plan page names Premium, Super and Ultra as the plans that include it.
Plus does not include Grok Bot.
Super and Ultra give larger shared weekly allowances, and usage draws from one weekly pool shared by Grok, Grok Bot and Cursor.
The phone app sells monthly individual plans only, so Teams and Enterprise plans are bought on cursor.com.
If you start a paid plan or a Teams seat while the trial is still running, the FAQ says the trial ends by itself.
Bigger teams: ask for an admin-led trial
If your company already uses Cursor Enterprise, do not have each employee chase their own trial.
The changelog shows Enterprise admins can start a Grok Bot trial for the team from the dashboard (v0.33.0).
Admins can also see how many trial days remain on the dashboard Overview (v0.37.0).
One admin-led trial gives you one set of results to judge, which is cleaner than five scattered tests.
A partner's referral link is another way in
If a business contact already pays for Premium, Super or Ultra, they can send you a referral link.
The referral program docs say that gives you a 2-week free trial of Premium.
You need a credit card to start it, and you get a reminder 7 days before the first charge.
Treat that reminder as your decision date, and cancel before it if the test did not pay back your time.
How to measure time saved in seven days
Owners get the most from a trial when they keep score.
- Write down how long the task takes you by hand today.
- Run the same task with the Bot and note the time you spent briefing and checking it.
- Open Settings → Usage & Billing after the run to see how much credit it used.
- Repeat the task once more with a tighter brief.
- Compare: minutes saved per run, times per week, and how much checking it needed.
That small table tells you more than any review page can.
Risks to manage before the Bot touches customers
Keep a human approval on anything that goes out to a customer during the trial.
Do not hand the Bot payment details or logins you would not want used without asking.
Be careful with the "Try it, don't pay for it" template added in v0.78.1: it starts free trials of other services for you and cancels or reminds before they bill.
That is handy for owners drowning in software trials, but set an Ask first rule so nothing changes on your accounts without your yes.

Write the brief like you would brief a new hire
The trial rewards clear instructions, because vague ones burn credit.
Tell the Bot who the customer is, what a good answer looks like, and when to stop.
Give it an example of a past reply you liked.
A sharp brief on day 1 gets you a fair answer sooner, and leaves credit for a second try.
Your day-7 decision rule
If one task saved you real time with light checking, choose a plan by name and keep that task running weekly.
If nothing saved time, let the trial lapse, since the usage-credit version will not bill you.
If you pressed Cancel Trial early, remember you cannot start it again, so only do that when you are sure.

FAQ: Is The Grok Bot Free Trial Worth It For A Small Business? How To Test One Real Job In 7 Days
Is the Grok Bot free trial risky for my business?
The usage-credit trial never turns into a paid plan and costs nothing to cancel. The real risk is an iPhone App Store trial, which Apple converts to paid unless you cancel it in Apple ID Subscriptions.
Which Grok Bot plan should a small business pick after the trial?
On The X Subscription, Premium, Super and Ultra include Grok Bot, and Plus does not. Super and Ultra give larger shared weekly allowances.
Can my whole team share one trial?
On Cursor Enterprise, an admin can start a Grok Bot trial for the team from the dashboard and see the days left on the Overview.
What if I only see Get Grok Bot and no trial?
Release v0.78.1 replaced the trial offer with Get Grok Bot on a unified plan in some places, so your account may show plans instead of Start Trial.
