Hermes Agent browser is the built-in toolset that lets a Hermes agent open a website, read the page, click buttons, fill in forms and take screenshots without you touching the mouse.

It is part of Hermes Agent, the free open-source AI agent from Nous Research, so there is nothing extra to buy before you can try it.

I'm writing this one for business owners, agencies and creators, so I'll explain what the browser is first and then show you the kinds of jobs it suits.

The facts about the tool come from the official Hermes browser docs, which I re-read on 12 October 2026, and from the help output of my own Hermes install.

I won't promise you an income figure, because a browser tool doesn't make money by itself, and the docs list real limits you should hear before you plan around it.

What The Hermes Agent Browser Is, In Plain English

Most AI chatbots can only talk about a website.

A Hermes agent with the browser toolset can go to the website and use it.

The docs describe it as a full browser automation toolset with several backend options.

The agent doesn't look at the page the way you do.

Hermes converts each page into a text snapshot, and every button, link and form field gets a short reference code.

The agent reads the snapshot, chooses a reference and tells the browser to click it or type into it.

When a page only makes sense visually, such as a chart, the agent can take a screenshot and have a vision model describe it.

The docs say that in every mode the agent can navigate websites, interact with page elements, fill forms and extract information.

The Problem It Solves For A Business

A lot of business admin lives behind a web page with no API.

Somebody has to log in, click through three menus, copy a number and paste it somewhere else.

Web search tools can't do that, because they only fetch text.

The browser toolset is the piece that lets an agent do the clicking part.

The docs draw the line clearly for you.

They say to prefer web search or web extract for simple information retrieval, because those are faster and cheaper.

They say to use the browser when you need to interact with a page, such as clicking buttons, filling forms or handling dynamic content.

That one rule will save you tokens, because the browser is the slower and heavier option.

What It Can Do, In One Table

Ability What it means for you
Navigate The agent opens any URL you give it.
Read The agent gets the page as text, including the parts that load with JavaScript.
Click and type The agent presses buttons and fills in fields by their reference codes.
Scroll, press keys and go back The agent moves around a page the way a person would.
Screenshots with vision The agent captures the page and has a vision model analyse it.
List images The agent pulls the image URLs and alt text from a page.
Read the console The agent sees JavaScript errors, which helps when it checks your own site.
Fill saved logins The agent signs in through the credential vault without the model seeing the password.
Record sessions An optional setting saves each browser session as a video file.

The docs note that on messaging platforms such as Telegram, Discord, Slack and WhatsApp, the agent can send you a screenshot as a photo.

What It Costs A Business

Hermes Agent is free and open source, and the browser toolset comes with it.

Running the browser on your own machine costs nothing beyond the model tokens you already pay for.

The docs name three cloud browser providers, which are Browser Use, Browserbase and Firecrawl.

Each one bills on its own plan, and the docs say cloud sessions consume provider credits.

Paid Nous Portal subscribers can use cloud browsing through the Tool Gateway without a separate provider key.

I haven't quoted provider prices here, because I'd rather you read today's numbers on their own sites.

The cost people forget is tokens, because every page snapshot is text the model has to read.

How To Switch It On In Your Business

You need Hermes Agent installed first, and the setup takes a few minutes.

Then the commands are short.

  1. Run hermes tools list to see whether the browser toolset is enabled.
  2. Run hermes tools enable browser if it shows as disabled.
  3. Run hermes tools and open Browser Automation to choose where the browser runs.
  4. Ask the agent to open a page and summarise it, so you can see it working.

On my own install, the browser showed as enabled for the terminal when I checked on 12 October 2026.

You can switch it off again with hermes tools disable browser.

Tools are set per platform, so your Telegram bot can have the browser off while your desk has it on.

7 Jobs A Business Can Hand To The Hermes Agent Browser

These are jobs the documented tools can do.

They are examples of fit, not results I'm promising you.

1. Reading Pages That Block Normal Scrapers

This is the one I can show from my own setup.

I have a Hermes skill that scans AI news every day, and I published it in my Hermes AI skills guide.

The skill tries web search first and web extract second.

When both come back empty, it opens the news site in the browser and takes a full snapshot.

My note in that skill says the web tools returned nothing in March 2026, and the browser returned the full pages every time.

A business can use the same fallback for competitor pages, pricing pages and industry news.

2. Monitoring A Price Or A Page For Changes

The docs mention a bundled skill called product-price-monitor as a worked example.

It writes down what to watch during setup, then a scheduled job re-reads the page, compares it and alerts you on a change.

That shape suits supplier prices, competitor offers and stock pages.

3. Checking Your Own Website

The agent can open your site, read the console for JavaScript errors and take a screenshot.

The docs also describe a hybrid mode where a cloud browser handles public sites and a local browser handles your localhost pages.

That is useful for a developer or an agency checking a build before it goes live.

4. Filling In Repetitive Web Forms

The docs use a sign-up form as their own example.

The agent opens the page, takes a snapshot, types into the fields and clicks the button.

I'd keep a human on the final submit for anything that matters, which I'll explain in the safety section.

5. Working Inside A Tool You're Logged Into

Some dashboards have no export button and no API.

Real profile browsing lets the agent work as you, using a copy of your browser profile with your existing logins.

The docs say it supports Chrome, Edge, Brave and Chromium, and it is off by default.

6. Scheduled Reports From A Logged-In Site

The docs describe how a scheduled job can drive a site you're signed into.

You turn on real profile browsing, give the job the browser toolset and save any login it will need in advance.

The docs are blunt that a scheduled run has nobody to answer a prompt, so it reports a login page instead of waiting for you.

7. Research On Dynamic Pages

The second example in the docs is reading the trending repositories on GitHub.

Any page that builds itself with JavaScript is a candidate, because the browser sees the finished page.

How An Agency Would Use It

An agency usually has the same checks to run across many client sites.

The browser lets one agent open each site, capture a screenshot and note any console errors.

You could pair it with scheduled jobs so the checks arrive in a chat channel each morning.

I'd give each client a separate Hermes profile, because the docs say Camofox browser profiles are scoped to the active Hermes profile.

I'd also keep client logins in the credential vault rather than in a prompt.

My wider list of jobs is in my best Hermes Agent use cases post.

How A Creator Would Use It

A creator's version is mostly research.

The agent can read the pages that web extract can't, pull the image list from a page and send you a screenshot in Telegram.

The docs say the snapshot browser in real profile mode runs in the background with no visible window, so you can keep working while it browses.

I'd be careful about letting any agent post for you on a logged-in account, because the platform's rules still apply to you.

Logged-In Sessions, Cookies And Passwords

By default the local browser uses a clean throwaway profile, so the agent is logged into nothing.

You have three documented ways to change that.

Option How it works What to know
Real profile browsing Hermes copies your active browser profile into a managed snapshot and drives the copy. You should quit your browser first, because a running browser locks the login databases.
Credential vault The agent asks you for a login the first time, then fills it on later visits. The docs say the password is encrypted on your machine and the model never sees it.
Cloud profiles Browser Use cloud can reuse cookies and saved passwords across sessions. The provider's browser sees the page like any other browser.

The vault also handles two-factor codes.

If you save the authenticator key with the login, Hermes generates the code itself.

If the code goes to your phone, a small prompt asks you to type it.

Safety A Business Should Set Up First

The docs describe real profile browsing as a consent-gated convenience, not an isolation boundary.

That means a page the agent visits in that mode runs with your real logins.

Here is what I'd set before a team uses it.

  • I'd keep real profile browsing off unless a specific job needs it.
  • I'd add a website blocklist in the security settings for admin panels and internal tools.
  • I'd turn on browser.restrict_evaluate if the agent browses unknown sites with a logged-in profile.
  • I'd disable the browser on any chat platform where other people can message the bot.
  • I'd keep a person on the final click for payments, deletions and anything sent to a customer.

The docs are honest about what the vault can't do.

Once a password is typed into a site, that site has it, exactly as when you type it yourself.

Limits A Business Should Know First

  • The browser works from a text snapshot, not from pixel positions on the screen.
  • Long pages are cut at 15,000 characters by default, and the full snapshot is saved to a file the agent can read.
  • The docs state that the browser cannot download files.
  • Cloud sessions expire based on your provider's plan.
  • The command that connects your own Chrome only works in the terminal, not in Telegram or a web chat.

CAPTCHAs and bot checks need a plain answer.

The docs say Browser Use cloud includes CAPTCHA solving, and Browserbase lists it under basic stealth.

They also describe a visible-window mode where you can step in and solve a challenge yourself.

No setting guarantees a site will accept an agent.

My own news skill notes that Product Hunt showed a bot check, and my instruction to the agent was to skip it.

You should also read a site's terms before you automate it, because that part is your responsibility.

What My Own Content Shows And What It Doesn't

The video at the top is about Hermes Computer Use, which is a neighbouring feature.

Computer Use drives desktop apps in the background, and I showed it opening Notes and writing a journal entry.

The Hermes docs say browser work goes through the browser toolset rather than Computer Use.

My direct browser evidence is the news skill I described above.

I haven't published a long test of every backend, so I've leaned on the docs for those.

If you want the Browser Use project explained on its own, read my Hermes Agent browser use guide.

My Verdict For Business Owners

The Hermes Agent browser is worth switching on if you have web tasks with no API behind them.

It is free on your own machine, it is honest about its limits and it has real guard rails for passwords.

I'd start with read-only jobs, because a wrong read costs you nothing and a wrong click can cost you a customer.

I'd add logged-in work one job at a time.

I'd skip it for simple lookups, because web search does those faster and cheaper.
