Hermes MissingNo is a free stealth AI model you can run inside Hermes Agent, and in this post I'll explain what it is and how a business, an agency or a creator can put it to work.
MissingNo is a coding and agentic reasoning model that Nous Research announced on 10 October 2026.
Nous Research are the people who make Hermes Agent, and they've made MissingNo free for a limited time on Nous Portal.
The lab behind the model hasn't been named, which is why everyone calls it a stealth model.
So you get a free brain for your agent today, with no promise about how long it stays free.
I tested it on real jobs, and I'll tell you honestly which ones it handled well and which ones it didn't.
My MissingNo video isn't public yet, so the video above is my Solar Mini 4 walkthrough, which uses the same Hermes Cloud free-model screens.
What Hermes MissingNo Is, In Plain English
Hermes MissingNo means using the MissingNo model as the thinking engine inside Hermes Agent.
Hermes Agent is the assistant that does the work, using tools like web search, files, skills and memory.
The model is the part that reads your request and decides what to do next.
When you change the model, you change how smart, how fast and how expensive your agent is.
The name comes from Pokémon, where MissingNo, short for "missing number", is the famous glitch character.
Here's what I could confirm from Nous Research's announcement and the Nous inference API on 12 October 2026.
| What you need to know | The answer |
|---|---|
| Who released it | Nous Research put it on Nous Portal and announced it on X on 10 October 2026. |
| Who built it | The lab has not been announced. |
| What it's meant for | Nous calls it a coding and agentic reasoning model that is highly token efficient. |
| What it costs | It's free for a limited time, with no published end date. |
| How much it can read at once | The listing shows a 262,144-token context window. |
| What it can take in | It takes text only, so it can't look at images. |
| What it can do with tools | The listing shows tool calling and structured outputs. |
| What isn't published | I couldn't find a parameter count, an official benchmark or the maker's name. |
I've guessed out loud that it might be Nous Research's own model, and I want to be clear that it's only a guess.
If you're new to the company, my post on Hermes Agent by Nous Research explains who they are.

The Problem It Solves
Most business owners I talk to want an AI agent, and they don't want another monthly bill just to find out if it helps.
Premium models are brilliant, but every task costs money.
That makes people nervous about letting an agent run a long job on its own.
A free model removes that worry for the simple work.
You can let the agent loop, call tools and try again without watching a meter.
"Highly token efficient" matters here too, because an efficient model does the same job with fewer tokens, which keeps you inside free limits for longer.
How To Switch It On Without Installing Anything
The quickest route is Hermes Cloud, where your agent runs on Nous Research's servers.
- Go to portal.nousresearch.com/cloud and click Deploy.
- Log in to Nous Portal.
- Click Create agent.
- Open Manage agents and click your new agent.
- Click Open dashboard.
- Go to the model section.
- Search for "Nous Research", or type "missing".
- Pick the stealth model, which is MissingNo.
- Reload the page and start chatting.
You can also ask Hermes to configure Hermes Cloud for you, which is a nice trick if menus aren't your thing.
Check the model name afterwards, so you know the change really happened.
The profile trick I use
I keep one Hermes profile per model inside my Agent OS.
A profile is a separate copy of Hermes with its own model and memory.
I have one for Step 5 Preview, which is another free model, and one for MissingNo.
That means I can try a new model on a job without breaking the agent my business depends on.
If you run Hermes on your own machine, hermes profile create missingno makes the profile, and hermes -p missingno opens a chat in it.
Use Case 1: Turn Your Know-How Into Skills With /learn
This is the job MissingNo did best in my testing.
The /learn command points Hermes at a source and turns it into a reusable skill.
MissingNo did it really well and fast, and it told me the exact path where the new skill was saved.
Think about what that means for a business.
You could point it at your sales process, your brand guidelines or your onboarding checklist.
The agent then has a skill it can use every time, instead of you pasting the same document into a chat again and again.
Because the model is free right now, you can build a small library of skills without paying per document.
The /skills command then shows you what your agent has learned.
Use Case 2: Competitor Analysis With Hermes Oracle
Hermes Oracle is one of the places I'd plug MissingNo in, and competitor analysis is the obvious job.
An agency could run it on a client's top rivals before a strategy call.
A creator could run it on the channels in their niche before planning next month's content.
MissingNo was fast at calling agentic tools in my test, and research like this is mostly tool calls.
You still need to read the output and click the sources, because a free model can get facts wrong.
Use Case 3: Hermes Bots That Run On A Free Brain
Hermes Bots let you create a bot from your active profile.
So if your active profile is the MissingNo one, the bot runs on MissingNo.
That's a cheap way to test a bot idea, such as an internal helper that answers questions from a skill you made with /learn.
I'd keep it internal at first, because a stealth model can change or vanish without warning.
My post on Hermes Agent Bot Mode explains the bot feature in more detail.

Use Case 4: Small Coding Jobs, With Honest Expectations
MissingNo is described as a coding model, so I tested it on code.
It didn't work so well.
I asked for a simple ping-pong style game, and it took around five minutes to generate.
The game works, which is fair for a free model.
It isn't frontier level, though, and it won't replace Claude Opus 5.5.
So for a business, I'd use it for small scripts and quick fixes where a mistake is cheap.
I wouldn't hand it a client website or anything customers will touch.
Use Case 5: A Voice Agent That Knows Your Hermes Commands
I also showed a voice agent inside my Agent OS.
It's a pop-up voice agent that works with ChatGPT and Hermes.
I asked it for useful Hermes commands, and it listed things like /learn and /skills.
That's handy for a team, because nobody has to remember the commands.
They can ask out loud and get pointed to the right one.
Use Case 6: A Free Test Bed Before You Pay For A Model
This is the least exciting use, and it's the most valuable one.
Before you pay for a premium model, run the job on a free one.
If MissingNo does the job well enough, you've saved money.
If it doesn't, you now know exactly why you're paying for the better model.
Either way you've made the decision with evidence instead of a guess.
Which Jobs To Give It, And Which To Keep Away From It
| Job | Should MissingNo do it? | Why |
|---|---|---|
Turning documents into skills with /learn |
Yes | This worked really well and fast in my test. |
| Research and competitor analysis | Yes, with checking | It's quick at tool calls, but you must verify the facts. |
| Internal bots and helpers | Yes, as a trial | It's free to test, but the model could be removed. |
| Small scripts and quick fixes | Maybe | Coding was only moderate in my test. |
| Client builds and big coding projects | No | It isn't frontier level, so use a stronger model. |
| Anything involving images | No | The listing shows text input only. |
| Anything you can't undo | No | A human should approve payments, sends and deletes. |
What Happens When The Free Window Closes
MissingNo could be taken down, it could become paid, or you could run out of tokens.
None of that should stop your work.
Go to the model section, type "free" and pick another one.
There were about eight free models when I recorded.
| Free model | Why you'd switch to it |
|---|---|
| Step 3.7 Flash | It's a quick everyday backup. |
| Step 5 Preview | It's the other free model I keep a profile for. |
| Ling 3.0 | It's a second free flash option for comparing answers. |
| LongCat | It can read very long inputs. |
| Laguna XS 2.1 | It's a small model for light coding chores. |
| Solar Mini 4 | It's fast, and you should pick the free entry. |
The list changes often, so check it inside Hermes on the day.
If you'd rather someone else hosted Hermes for you, my FlyHermes post looks at that option, and my Solar Mini 4 Hermes post covers another free model on the same list.

The Honest Verdict For Business Use
MissingNo is a good free helper and a poor replacement for a premium model.
It's fast at tools, and it's great at /learn.
It's only moderate at coding.
It costs nothing today, and that could change tomorrow.
So use it for the jobs where speed and price matter more than polish.
Keep the important, customer-facing work on a model you trust and pay for.
I can't promise it will save you money, because that depends on the jobs you give it.
What I can say is that a free test costs you ten minutes.
